3D Scanner

A turntable photogrammetry rig driven by an STM32 microcontroller and a DSLR camera that turns photos of an object into a 3D model.

The 3D Scanner photographs an object from many angles with a DSLR camera and reconstructs a 3D model from those photos. It was a hardware project advised by Dr. Musa Aydın and Ömer Faruk Göksu.

How it scans

The object sits on a rotating plate in front of the camera.

  1. The camera takes a photo, then the plate turns 36 degrees.
  2. After a full turn (10 steps), the camera platform moves up to a new height.
  3. This repeats 6 times, so one scan collects photos from 60 positions.

The photos are then loaded into Agisoft Metashape, which processes them into a 3D object in the required export format.
